Minutes

 

 

1. Call to order at 7:08 pm

2. Present: Gary Bluestein Chair, Steve Ferrara, Steve Lesco, Rick Schantz, Amanda Deni Levasseur, Ben Puritz Mike Goldstein, Mitch Blaustein, Laura Salmons

3. Motion to approve minutes from meeting of December 6, 2012 offered, seconded and passed

4. Extended Discussion on items from the Recreation Director’s Report of January 10, 2013

   4a. Extended signage being put in place to help with navigating within the      Community Center building.

   4b. The issue of a photo exhibit display at the community center was discussed. The display which would have a community feel was viewed favorably by the committee. However, concern was raised about the idea that it ought not be a permanent arrangement, but rather open to the potential for rotating exhibits, perhaps in a more permanent placeholders for pictures. Amanda to look into further.

   4c. Discussed dog waste removal facilities at Memorial Beach. Looking into separate dog waste removal receptacles

   4d. Discussed the possible acquisition of Dori poles a geese inhibitors at beach.

   4e. Discussed potential for 2 paid referees per game for upper grades of Rec basketball.

   4f. Discussed potential for expanding summer concert series beyond the summer.

   4g. Discussed beach passes, the potential for offering combination passes at a discount, and the possibility of car passes carrying multiple plates *similar to RR passes).

   4h. Discussed storage space issues at Community Center.

5. Search for Assistant Recreation Director position proceeding. Currently sorting through resumes. Neil Grossman  is Recreation Advisory Committee member on search team,

6. Discussion of Sacred Heart property reuse. Separate design and demolition aspects. Stressed importance of community input to plans. Goal is demolition by summer.. Extension of Reuse Committee into planning use issues. Mitch Blaustein becomes RAC representative to the Reuse Committee, replacing Mike Ginsberg.

7. Discussion of Memorial Beach renovation process. Ensuring adequate electrical upgrade to accommodate additional and anticipated power requirements. Looking for internal funds transfer to cover additional cost.

8. Accepting revisions to RAC mission statement. To be discussed at next meeting.

9. Discussed continued desirability and scheduling for bringing in sports groups to coordinate with the RAC. Established the desirability of a meeting with the new SHS athletic director at the end of February,

10. Old Business:

   10a. Received communication from Peg Arguimbau representing committee overseeing  annual upgrade/review to Recreation Master Plan/Open Space report.  Needed for grant planning. Meeting on February 6th. Gary and Amanda to attend to represent RAC.

   10b. Discussion on looking into recent Brewster ruling about dogs on beaches, as potentially applicable to Sharon.

11. Next meeting schedule TBD.

12. Motion to adjourn at 8:50pm unanimously passed.
